双城记英文读后感
<A tale of two cities>---Our indignation, our power.
A tale of two cities is one of Dickens's most important representative works. The novel profoundly exposed the society contradiction before the French Revolution, and it deeply attacks the aristocratic social class is dissolute and cruel, and sincerely sympathizes with the depressed classes. The novel also described many magnificent scenes like the revolt people holding on attacking Bastille and so on, which displayed people's great strength, belief and perseverance.
The novel has described many different people. Doctor Manette is honest and kind but suffers the persecution actually. He has to be in the prison because he had got some proof about the dissolute and cruel life of the aristocratic social class. Lucie is beautiful and gentle ，Charles is of great grace and has a warm hart. Lorry is upright and honest ，Sydney is semblance of indifferent, innermost feelings of warm, unconventional but also selfless and lofty，Miss Pross is frank and loyal，Evremonde brothers are cruel and sinister......The complex hatred is hard to solve, the cruel revenge has made more hatreds from depressed classes.
Dickens is an outstanding writer. So it is necessary to tell about the language skill in his work. Each kind of rhetoric technique, like the analogy, the exaggeration, the contrast, the humorous, and the taunt are handled, excellent, skillfully, and the artistry of the work is also delivered the peak. A tale of two cities has its difference with the general historical novel, its character and the main plot are all fictionalizes. With the broad real background of the French Revolution, the author take the fictional character Doctor Manette's experience as the main clue, mix up the unfair charge, love and revenge three independent things but also incident cross-correlation stories together, the plot is criss-crossed, and the line of the novel is complex. The author use insert descriptions, foreshadowing, and so many other writing skills, causes the structure complete and strictness, the plot winding to be interesting, exciting and anxious. it’s ri ch of theatrical nature, it displayed the uncommon artistic skill. Although it doesn’t has a tragedy story, the style A tale of two cities is solemnity and melancholy, fills indignation, but needs the humor of the works.
This novel told me that the society may be really unfair, and maybe I will have met a lot of unjust things in my life. I’d better let my indignation be my power. And I should be more perseverant and strong-willed, be optimistic enough, and take my courage in both hands to be the best one.
