1 Preface
1.1 An introduction to this article
The article is mainly engaged in a study of William Faulkner’s life and his influence on the American literature, especially on the southern literature of America, in hoping to enlighten our study of the American literature.
William Cuthbert Faulkner is renowned as one of the greatest novelists of the twentieth century. Born in New Albany, Mississippi, on September 25, 1897, he spent most of his life in Mississippi and wrote there many of his short and long fictions around his observations and life experiences in the South. Faulkner's mythical Yoknapatawpha County serves as the locale for many of his stories and is so well known both in print and in motion pictures as to deserve a real place on the map. Myth or not, it will always survive on the literary map of the United States because of Faulkner's technical brilliance and gift for storytelling.2134
