2.2.2Different Styles in Negotiations
It is common that negotiations have different styles, as well as the gestures. Compared the business negotiations between the United States and Latin America, there are some differences.
There are many sub-cultures and ethnic groups within the United States.  Each has its own characteristic style of nonverbal communications.   In the corporate environment, however, firm handshakes, strong eye contact, and smiles are encouraged.  Business associates who are conversing face-to-face typically stand about a meter apart.  Dress is relatively conservative and formal.
But in Latin America, there is less physical distance between people, softer handshakes, more touching, and greater use of hand and arm gestures.  Business dress tends to be more fashionable and, in some cases, more colorful.
The different styles in negotiations between United States and Latin America tell us that knowing their fine distinction so as to achieve a successful negotiation.
2.2.3Handshake in Business Negotiation
Referred business negotiation, take the handshake as an instance. The handshake today is an important symbol of respect and in many countries; it’s the proper business greeting. To be taken seriously, whether you are male or female, you must shake hands appropriately. Like it or not, you are often judged by the quality of your handshake.
There are three keys to an effective handshake:
i.Say your name and extend your hand. In most situations, the higher-ranking person should extend the hand first. If he or she doesn’t, you should.
ii.Extend your hand at a slight angle, with your thumb up. Touch thumb join to thumb joint. Put your thumb down gently once contact has been made, and wrap your fingers around the other person’s palm. Many people think they already use this technique, but are amazed when they test it to find how different it feels from their usual handshake.
iii.Provide a firm handshake but not a bone-breaking one. Tow, possibly three, pumps are enough. Then drop your hand[ 《handshake》].
Knowing the keys to an effective handshake also helps to achieve a wonderful negotiation.
Educational Communication and Gestures
Educational communication can not take away from gestures. The students are helped to improve their study in a certain degree by their teacher's gesture. The use of gestures can not only attract the students' attention, but also deepen their impression and imagination. The use of gesture is completely up to the standard of audio-visual teaching principle, so teachers should try to teach from the beginning to the end, together with the corresponding gestures.
2.3.1The Gestures in Class
The concrete application of gestures in class is of benefit to listening, speaking, reading and writing.
i.Gesture helps to improve listening
To understand others is a basic purpose in English teaching, and teachers often train the students' listening accordingly. In this process, if the gesture is used, the effect will be better. When beginning a new lesson, the teacher narrates the story outline in English. The gesture may help. For example, a teacher can stretch his arms slowly when he says "She is in a very big room". As a result, the students will have such an impression: the room is so big. It will surely achieve a better effect.
ii.Gesture helps to improve speaking
Generally speaking, the gesture can arouse and sustain the students' interest of learning and using English. Take it for example, the first lesson is about the time when the new students first meet. So a teacher can introduce himself first, such as: "Hello, everyone, nice to meet you here. My name is Arthur. '". During the introduction, the teacher should shakes hands with some students saying "Nice to meet you"; he points to himself when he says “My name is Arthur” Usually, the application of greeting gestures in different situations will result in an attracting and vivid lesson.
iii.Gesture helps to improve reading
To make it clear, we can imitate the strong or soft pats that are used in music teaching. With the help of gesture, students can solve problems much more easily. For example, as they read the choosing interrogative sentence, they raise their hands in rising tones and lower in falling tones. After training for some times, as soon as they read the sentences, they will remind themselves of the gestures. As a result, there will be no problems in rightly reading the sentences at all.
iv.Gesture helps to improve writing.
Teachers use different method in order to improve the students' ability of writing, among which, the application of gestures can deepen the object impression, such is magnificent in developing the students' writing ability.
In a word, the vivid gesture together with the English teaching can create a good circumstance of English learning, which will surely play an active part in improving the students' listening, speaking, reading and writing ability.
