I. Introduction
Tess of the D’Urbervilles is singled out to be one of Tomans Hardy’s most successful works. Though describing the miserable fate of Tess, a pure daughter of nature, Tomans Hardy’s Tess of the D’Urbervilles demonstrates the close relationship between nature and women and the double conflicts between nature and civilization, women and men.
Ecofeminism theory originates from feminism and ecocriticism, which believes that there is a powerful closely between nature and women. On account of the male-dominated society of the nature and the oppression of women, both of nature and women are victims. Ecofeminists call up the reconstruction of the harmonious society with the principles of ecology and feminism, where nature can break away from depredation and women can get complete liberation. Based on such understanding ecofeminism criticism highlights the association between nature and women in literary works and advocates a feminist writing of nature.
