On Subtitle Translation of the Animated Films from the Perspective of Reception Theory——Taking Zootopia as an Example
1.Introduction
1.1 Research significance
Nowadays, the film industry has become increasingly developed. Films have entered people's daily life, while a growing number of scholars have turned their attention to subtitling translation. Although subtitling translation research in China developed later than that in Western countries, related studies in our country have undergone magnificent development in recent years. However, children's favorite animated films have been forgotten by scholars, which have only accounted for a tiny fraction in studies on subtitling translation of animated films, of which the majority has taken animated films with distinctive national characteristics like Mulan and Kung Fu Panda as the object for studying and analyzing translation of culture-loaded words. Few studies have simply started from the particularity of children and studied on translation of subtitle language so as to help children accept animated films better. As the saying goes, children are future of the world, so the world should treat children with the best. We can never ignore animated films’ significant enlightenment on children’s growth, nor neglect subtitling translation quality of those films. Therefore, this paper has selected Zootopia, which is one of the most popular animated films this year, as the object and compared subtitles by dubbing film studio with that by online subtitling group, so as to study on subtitling translation of animated films from the perspective of acceptance theory.
Thus, in order to enable children to better learn Western culture and perceive animated films in the Occident, the study on subtitling translation of animated films becomes indispensable. Therefore, under the guidance of reception theory, this paper has taken this film as the representative, effectively combined the translation of children's literature with that of animated films as well as the characteristics of film subtitling translation. Through comparative study on the official and online version of Zootopia’s subtitling translation, the paper has conducted an analytical research on subtitling translation of animated films, so as to help children enjoy animated films better.
