Chapter 1 Introduction
1.1 Background Information
With the fast-paced development of intercultural exchange, international communication happens more frequently, as well as code-switching. In the 1970s, linguists tended to emphasize the structural analysis of code-switching and tried to find a universal rule which is applicable to all languages. One of the most influential theories is Poplack’s free morpheme constraints and reciprocal constraints. As code-switching can occur in the form of words, phrases, clauses, or sentences, it can be classified into varied types-- Intra-sentential switching, Inter-sentential switching, Tag-switching, etc.( Guo Linhua, 2006). Intra-sentential switching means mixed code happens inside the sentence and this is also the focus of the study, because as the most typical mode, Intra-sentential switching accounts for the biggest part among the code-switching sentences.
1.2 Purpose of the Study
This study deals with the Intra-sentential switching between English and Chinese and tries to sum up some regular patterns in this area to promote a leap in the process of language cognition and also make the communication more effective. Through the analysis of the corpus, laws of Intra-sentential switching can be discovered. The finding of new blendings (such as 恋爱ing) can provide evidence for language fusion and even drive language evolution to a certain extent. The topic of the dissertation is closely linked to people’s daily life. 汉英句内语码转换中语言迁移的研究(2):http://www.751com.cn/yingyu/lunwen_20123.html
