Abstract With the prosperity of tourism industry in China and rapid development of cross-cultural communication among different countries in recent years, bilingual public signs are more frequently used in China’s famous scenic spots. These signs intend to provide convenience and help to international tourists, and regulate tourists’ behavior for the sake of their safety and the protection of public facilities in scenic spots. However, the present situation of the bilingual public signs in China is not very satisfactory. There exist various kinds of errors in their translated versions. Some of them have caused innumerable misunderstandings to international tourists, and some even fail to express a complete meaning. The purpose of this thesis is not only to help solve the translation problems of public signs in China’s scenic spots, but also render the public to realize the seriousness of these problems and offer their support for the correction of bilingual public signs in China.31843
By analyzing the samples either collected by the author herself or from other sources, the author concludes the types of translation errors of public signs as well as reasons leading to them. Besides, the author further puts forward workable solutions to these problems, including translation strategies which should be applied to the translation of public signs and what roles the translator, competent authorities and target readers should play.

摘 要随着近年来中国旅游业的繁荣和各国间跨文化交往的迅速发展，双语公示语更为频繁的用于中国著名景点。这些公示语旨在为国外游客提供便利和帮助,管理游客的行为，从而保护其安全以并文护景点公共设施。然而，中国双语标志语的现状不尽如人意。其译文中还存在各种各样的错误。它们中部分给外国游客造成了很多误解，部分甚至无法传达完整的意思。本文的目的不仅旨在帮助解决国内景点公示语的翻译问题，同时也旨在使公众意识到该问题的严重性，支持中国双语标志语的纠错活动。
本文集中研究景点公示语的汉译英问题。通过分析作者自己收集的或其他来源的一些样本，作者总结了公示语的翻译错误类型以及产生的原因。此外，作者也提出了解决这些问题的可行方案，包括应应用于公示语翻译中的策略，翻译过程中译者、主管部门及目标读者应采取的措施。
