Ⅱ. The Application of MOOC in Middle School English Teaching
Some of middle school students’ English foundation is weak, and their self-discipline is poor. Those factors lead to the different learning level between the classmates. Many students are listless or fidgety in class, and those phenomena make the English teachers confused. Usually teachers will lack the teaching achievement, even produce the job burnout. Obviously, the traditional teaching model can’t stimulate students’ learning motivation well. As a result, it requires teachers introduce some information techniques in English teaching to make teaching become interesting and vivid. The MOOC teaching model is a better way to improve students’ academic achievement.
2.1 The Teaching Principles of MOOC
In the application of MOOC, teachers should abide by the following teaching principles.
1. The principle of participation
The participation of learning shows up the learning enthusiasm of students. Teachers should fully consider the students’ participation in each of teaching link, and attract students to participate in teaching activities through various methods, such as setting the novel teaching content, prize quiz and other ways to make the students active thinking, and be involved in the teaching actively .
2. The principle of interest
As the saying goes, interest is the best teacher. If the content of MOOC can cause students’ interest, it will greatly arouse students' thirst for knowledge
3. The developmental principle
The developmental principle emphasizes the students’ main body status and learning autonomy. Teaching process is the process of exchange and interaction between teachers and students, and is the process of students’ participation in class activities with their own knowledge, experience and thinking. Therefore, teachers should try their best to let different levels of students can get improvement.
4. The integrated principle
The content of MOOC must be combined with other subjects. It not only should be organically integrated with other disciplines, but also should be contact more real life and scientific research level to design MOOC.
5. Systematic principle
MOOC must be plan for teaching reasonably in accordance with the internal logic of scientific knowledge and the law of students’ cognitive development, which can make the students master the systematic scientific knowledge, gain adequate development of ability. Systematic and coherent teaching ensures that students get the systematic knowledge and it is conducive to students’ understanding of knowledge.
6. The feasibility principle
Test subject of MOOC must be feasible. Designing the test should consider the actual situation of students. It should ensure that students can complete the test in a limited time through independent research and collaborative exchange.
2.2 Teaching Design of the MOOC
At present, the basic elements of MOOC include: the video of course description (1-2 minutes), text course description, lesson video, test, weekly assignment, online examination, discussion forum, etc. Each course record cycle is in 2 to 3 months, and some will last for six months or a year.
1. Interest as the main line
The core of MOOC is to trigger students’ learning interest. Interest runs through the whole course, so as to make students actively participate in the learning process and complete the study task.
2. Teacher-guided
The teacher plays the leading role in the MOOC teaching process, which is embodied in the following aspects:
The teacher is the chooser of the curriculum subjects. While choosing the subject, the teacher should consider the market situation and demand. And the teacher is the curriculum planners. After selected subjects, teachers should plan the teaching content, teaching pace and courseware, and determine the knowledge points and the presentation of knowledge points.
