Because of web-based learning’ crucial roles in the English learning in the middle school, a reasonable way of making use of internet should be advocated by both the teacher and the student. The new College English Curriculum Requirements (Requirements hereafter) drawn up in 2004 advocated the use of internet in remolding English teaching. “For effective reforms of the teaching model,” the Requirements state, “the proportion of teaching hours or credit for computer-based English course should be increased” (34). It is proposed that the credits acquired via computer-based learning account for 30%~50% of the total (34).Thus it can be seen that how important web-based learning is in the process of English learning in the middle school. Based on those, the study of changes of Internet-based English learning modes in the middle school appears necessary.
II. The Web-based Learning and Its Influence on English Learning Modes
2.1The Definition of Web-based Learning
The so-called web-based learning, refers to a kind of learning activities which are carried out through the computer network. The use of autonomous learning and collaborative learning are the two mainly learning modes. From the definition above, we can see that internet-based learning is a sort of learning method based on internet, which changes the form of knowledge delivery; what is more, it has always taken the concern of effective teaching and learning in its relevant terms and definitions. Similarly, Web-based learning is the synonym of the Web-Based Training and Web-Based Instruction (WBI). So, what is Web-Based Instruction (WBI, also called Web-Based Training)? The concept was put forward by Clark,P(1938-2002) as follows: 网络环境下中学生英语学习模式变化探究(2):http://www.751com.cn/yingyu/lunwen_31691.html
