2.2 The Importance of English Writing

    People write for different reasons, such as to convey messages or just to keep a record of what is in our mind. For students, especially those who dare not to speak out, writing becomes a good way. Writing can give voice to shy students as writing can serve as a medium, through which less confident students can communicate with their others. Moreover, writing can be less threatening for anxious students as it gives them time to think about the meaning and purpose. Writing can also raise awareness of how language works, through which students will become more familiar with the linguistic and social conventions of writing in English. Writing can facilitate students to master the knowledge about phonetics, linguistics and grammar; to increase students’ interests in English study and establish their confidence. The most important thing is that it can foster lively imagination, logical thinking talent and language organization talent. Therefore, English teachers must pay attention to English writing during English teaching in middle school. They should make students master the methods and techniques of English writing, futhermore, their intrests in writing.
