The third problem is the lack of motivation. It is generally acknowledged that motivation is one of the key influences on language learning success. Motivation influences learners’ autonomy, attention, effort, persistence, the frequency of using learning strategies, and their learning achievement, etc. However, at present, most of English teachers fail to pay enough attention to the students’ motivations and the important motivational variables, much less have a systematic way of improving students’ motivation.
The last problem is the language learning environment. On one hand, in EFL classes, competitive classroom settings are more preferable than cooperative ones.Competition is considered by quite a number of teachers to be a very useful strategy to push students to work hard.However, because a competitive classroom features fewer interactions between students,more inpidualized work,little encouragement to help classmates, and evaluation that in some way depends upon the inferior performance of the other members of the class.and therefore there is less of no cooperation and peer support,which is very influential among young people.This would definitely demotivate students’ learning behaviors.On the other hand, students are in a rather passive role in the learning process and have few choices made by themselves.This leads to their lack of independence and confidence to deal with the learning tasks by their own.Classes that are kept rigidly under the teacher’s control are more likely to lead to dissatisfaction and alienation and do not facilitate personal, social or academic growth.
