2.1 A. H. Maslow’theory A. H. Maslow argues that inpidual’s behavior motivation are stimulated by demand and there are seven levels of demands ,such as is physiological needs, security needs, love and belongingness, esteem needs, knowledge and understanding needs, aesthetic needs and self-actualization. All of these needs are ranked by sequence, and only a lower level is achieved then a higher level appears. Self-realization is the highest level of one’s needs. English learning belongs to the self- realization level which is neither the necessity of survival nor owned by all people, but it is significant for inpidual to accommodate the society. Therefore, humanistic learning theory stresses the importance on the development of personality and creativity. In order to help students achieve their needs, it requires English teachers motivate students’ internal incentive and create a harmony relationship between students and teachers. Undoubtedly, it can reduce the disadvantage of the traditional pedagogy which ignores the development of personality and lack of initiative. Maslow argues that emotion and cognition are integrated. Of course, the perfect man is an idealized human model and if the teacher wants to achieve this educational ideal, there must be a real teaching aim- facilitating changes and learning, and cultivating a learner who can adapt metabolic environment and know how to learn. He said only one acquire how to learn, to accommodate variation, to realize that there is no any reliable knowledge and to search for the process of learning knowledge, he will be a real well -bred man. By this token, the humanistic learning theory pay particular attention to learning process rather the learning product and prefer teaching methods to teaching results.
2.2 C. R. Rogers’theory C. R. Rogers is known as the father of humanistic psychologist. He puts forward the following viewpoints: learning knowledge is a unique instinct of the humans; Educator should attach importance to learner’s meaningful learning; Meaningful learning activity occurs when the learner realized that his learning content is related to his objective. When learning involving in changing self-concept, it will threaten the learning process or even resist it. In addition, C. R. Rogers argues that the aim of education is to stimulate students’ development and make them adapt to variety and know how to study. His meaningful learning is a means of learning method by which inpidual learner engage in learning activity at a fast speed. 2.3 Goals of Humanistic Learning Theory The goal of humanistic learning theory is to make the student to be a perfect and useful person, then facilitating the development of total personality. In addition, humanistic learning theory argues that learning process is a self-discovery, self-mining and self- fulfillment course. The teacher should respect learners, take their needs seriously, explore their potential and encourage they can self-education. What’s more, the theory requires teachers do a lot to help students. For example focusing on students and highlighting the learner ’s role in the teaching procedure; taking students aware of the relationship between themselves and learning contents; taking students be in a harmony, caring and considerate environment; learning by doing; advocating students’ dignity and value, exploring the integrality and emphasizing to study the problem which is meaningful to human and society; revealing the nature of learning from the inpidual’s realization and significance, and considering learning as a spontaneous activity which can get the learner engaged in a constantly changing learning activity. 人文主义学习理论对中学英语教学的启示(2):http://www.751com.cn/yingyu/lunwen_54388.html
