Abstract As China has experienced great economic development and cooperated with different kinds of countries all over the world, many countries have an increasing demand to learn about China and its policies. We review the work in 2013 and arrange some work for 2014 in “Report on the Work of the Government in 2014”. Various political, economic, social, cultural situations at present and expectations for Chinese future are included in it. It is a good way to know about China, therefore, the rendition of the “Report on the Work of the Government in 2014” plays a decisive and guiding role in Chinese political strategies during recent periods and improving Chinese image on the international stage. “Report on the Work of the Government in 2014” is a political text, it requires an accurate study of the corresponding translation strategies.The paper aims to analyze its characteristics, generalize its translation principles and methods, and talk about the purposes of its translation.61491

摘要随着中国经济的发展，中外合作的不断加深，世界各国对了解中国及其政策的需求不断提高。每年的政府工作报告涉及了一系列当前经济、政治、社会、文化等发展现状以及对未来中国发展的展望，它是国外人士了解中国的有效途径，因此政府工作报告的翻译在中国对外宣传中起着极其重要的作用，也影响着中国的国际形象。本文根据目的论原则，通过研究2014年政府工作报告的英译版本，分析其文本的特点，并在此基础上总结其中的翻译原则和翻译方法，从而实现其翻译目的。

1. Introduction 

As our country’s development and reform and opening-up policy has been conducted, China has achieved a lot in many fields, including politics, economics, culture, national defense, etc. China has an increasing influence on the whole world. Consequently, we eagerly need an effective way to communicate with foreigners. Meanwhile, the translation of Government Work Report requires higher criterion because it is provided for foreigners to know about China. Concerning this, the guidance of translation theory can not be neglected for fear that translation errors appear.
