    Abstract
Through the recent review of David Copperfield, it can be found that most theses in China are focused on analyzing the translation versions of this novel. In order to make this thesis different from the previous ones and make it more innovative, it will pay attention to the characters’ analysis. This thesis will not only enable people to have a deep understanding of the characters in this book, but also let people know how Dickens’s childhood influences characters in David Copperfield.
Literary creation can in some sense reflect the author’s feelings and the life he has experienced. In addition, it is also an image of author’s heart. This thesis will analyze the major characters in David Copperfield such as David, David’s lovers and images of mother and father. This thesis also studies the author’s unique life experience.
The paper falls into four parts. The first part is a brief introduction of Charles Dickens and his novel David Copperfield. Then the second part summarizes Dickens’s background information, especially his childhood. The third part focuses on the influence of Dickens’s childhood on characters in David Copperfield, which is the main part of this thesis. It is pided into five aspects, including analyses of David, Peggotty, images of father, Dora and Agnes. All of these characters are compared with people around Dickens or his ideal images of mother, father and lover. The last part functions as a conclusion.
