摘要随着无线通信的迅猛发展,人们对通信系统的要求越来越高,小型化、低功耗、高可靠性成为不断发展的目标,用单片集成射频/微波电路取代混合集成电路已成为必然。CMOS 工艺在量产和成本方面具有其他工艺无法比拟的优点,尤其在超大规模数字集成电路方面的主导地位使得全CMOS单片集成通信电路成为将射频/微波电路与基带电路单片集成的最可能方案。60GHz 频段(59~64GHz)是经过美国联邦电信委员会(FCC, Federal Communications Commission)认可的无须授权即可使用的频段,可用于低功耗、高速率、宽频带的数据传输。 高品质无源器件的缺乏成为 CMOS 射频集成电路的设计瓶颈之一,而巴伦(Balun)作为一种可实现单双端转换的无源模块,在微波平衡混频器、倍频器、推挽放大器和天线等设备中有着广泛应用。 本课题主要研究一种工作在 60GHz 频段,采用 65nm CMOS 工艺实现的Marchand巴伦,实现从50欧姆单端不平衡端口到两个50欧姆平衡端口的阻抗转换。设计巴伦时,采用窄边和宽边耦合两种方式,并对宽边耦合的巴伦进行了减小版图面积的有效尝试。7767

Title On-chip Balun Research for Shared mmWave Tx and Rx
Abstract
With the rapid development of wireless communications, the rising demands
of small size, low-power and high reliable radio frequency integrated
circuits (RFICs) have generated tremendous interests in monolithic passive
components. With the advantages of mass-production and low cost, CMOS
processes have obtained a leading place in very large scale integrated
circuits (VLSI), so full-CMOS monolithic integrated communication systems
become the most viable scheme. The 60GHz frequency band(59~64GHz) has been
authorized by FCC(Federal Communications Commission) as the unlicensed
band for low-cost, high data rate and broadband applications.
The lack of high quality passive devices has become the bottleneck in CMOS
RFICs(Radio Frequency Integrated Circuits).As the passive module which can
transform unbalanced input to balanced outputs ,balun has been widely used
in milli-metre wave balanced mixer, frequency multiplier, push-pull
amplifiers and antennas.
In this paper, we discuss the design and optimization of Marchand balun
for 60GHz applications in 65nm COMS technology. The balun transforms from
a 50-Ω source load to 50-Ω terminations and has been realized in two
forms, which is edge-coupled and broadside coupled. Also, we have found
effective ways to minimize the layout for broadside applications.
