一、写意花鸟画与写意山水画的传统与渊源
花鸟画是中国画特有的科目。由于唐朝盛世大兴土木，对壁画和装饰画的需求很大，花鸟画就此开始流行。中国花鸟画在宋朝得到了较大的发展，“黄家富贵、徐熙野逸”、“没骨法”等都是这一时期典型的成果。徐熙于黄筌的绘画种种就已经出现了山水画元素的运用。如徐熙的《雪竹图》中就已经有了山水画元素的运用，表现出深远的境界。南宋画家“马一脚”、“夏半边”中也运用了山水画的元素，如《梅石溪鸟图》，将属于花鸟画的梅花和溪鸟与属于山水画的溪谷相结合，也就是山水画元素的运用使得画面一静一动，相呼应。明代大写意花卉开始流行，由徐渭，陈淳、吕纪等人，擅长大幅的作画，常常把物体放在一定的情境中去描绘。吕纪擅画花鸟画，但是他的花鸟画中一般有很多的元素，也有运动到山水画的元素。近现代写意花鸟画更是人才济济，如吴昌硕、齐白石等大家，都有很高的艺术成就。现代写意花鸟的大家有潘天寿、郭蕖、李苦禅等人，他们代表着现代写意花鸟画的巅峰水平，也是写意花鸟画的推动者。
由于书法入画，使得山水画画成为中国所特有的画种。书法入画产生了丰富的笔墨技法，如“五笔七墨” 等、还有披麻皴 、卷云皴 、雨点皴 等，这些丰富的笔墨技法、灵活多变的构图技巧、有特点的物色等。被被我们概括为山水画元素，是值得花鸟画科学习的地方。
