The novel describes the liberation of the people who moved overseas from mainland China to the United States. This book has two systems of mothers and daughters, both of which have a very good response. The four daughters were born and raised in the United States. Their mothers show off to each other their daughters’ talents, but the daughter felt shameful and bored for the mother’s doings. Mothers hope that their daughter can fit in the American society, and meanwhile not lose their Chinese character. All the mother’s cavils are an injury to the daughter’s heart. Until the adult daughters have experienced some indecision and thinking of life, daughters may know their mothers was trying to protect them, and never want to hurt their care and thought.
