Previous studies on this novel mainly focus on the love between Inman and Ada, the trauma from the war and the yearning for home. There are also some other scholars who make comparative study between this novel and The Odyssey. All the researches contributes to the further understanding of Cold Mountain. The novel embodies eco-feminism distinctly and evidently, so this paper intends to expound the relationship between humans and nature implied by Cold Mountain from the angle of ecofeminism.
Ecofeminism concerns the fate of nature and woman; gives positive value to the relationship between women and nature; advocates dependence and reliance among inpiduals. Ecofeminists are dedicated to building a world characterized by equality of men and women, harmony between the sexes, harmony between human society and nature. The ideas conveyed by Frazier in his novel Cold Mountain happen to be the same as ecofeminists’ ideas. His pursuit of equality between men and women, harmony between human society and nature, has instructive significance on building a harmonious society and world. He is indeed a male writer with ecofeminist consciousness.
