Inevitably, people are bewildered by various sorts of colors and needed all kinds of words to portray them in their daily life, color words seem to more regularly in the usage of literary words. It can’t be denied that almost all literary genius could not avoid using color words to describe their works vividly in order to achieve implications that they want from Homer to Wu chengen. Even if there are tremendous color words both in English and Chinese, their connotations are quite different in the same situation in a sense. This paper mainly shows the common and different implications and applications of color words between English and Chinese in politics, religion, economy, military events and social life by means of contrasting.

 Even though in the same circumstance ,the meaning of Chinese and English color words lead to the different comprehensions about their metaphoric meanings. It is rather different about the usage of colors words in china and English-speaking counties. Besides, they also have different comprehension about these color words owing to perse language habits, thinking styles, polity, geographical environment, and so on. Hence, People should know and study these differences so that they can improve their language ability and make the cross-cultural communication successfully. This paper mainly analyzes the characteristics of color words and the distinctions of color terms between Chinese and English from the field of cultural connotations.
