The domestic published English textbooks (DPET) and the original teaching materials of English (OTME) both have preponderances in English learning. Taking “Go For It” (Edit by LiuDaoyi, People's Education Press, 2012) as the example of DPET, while taking “New Concept English” (Edit by L.G. Alexander, Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press, 1997) the example of OTME, the purpose of the study is to find a balance between these teaching materials so as to find a suitable way to learning English for the students in Junior high schools in China. The proper usage of original teaching materials of English could provide students a better method of learning English, including raising students’ interests in learning English, understanding the western culture and learning the genuine form with the right pronunciation, right intonation, right use of words and right structure.
The study will focus on the following research questions:
1)What are the characteristics of DPET and OPME?
2)What are students’ attitudes toward the DPET and OPME?
3)In what way can we use DPET and OPME properly?

2. Literature Review
2.1 A Theoretical Study on Textbook
2.1.1 Definition of textbook
There are both a broad sense and a narrow one in the definition of teaching materials. The general teaching materials refer to all the teaching materials used by teachers and students in and out of the classroom. All the materials that help both of them to improve the teaching and learning as well as developing the knowledge or skills of the learners, can be referred to as the teaching materials.
The narrow sense of teaching materials refers to textbook. The textbook is the core materials for a course, according to the needs of the curriculum and generally compiled on the basis of grades. The main study contents are contained in the book, including pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, communicative function and four language skills. At present, the textbook contains not only the student's book, but also the teacher's book, workbook, exercises, pictures, cards, tapes and the extracurricular books, etc. ( ChengXiaotang, 2002).
The textbooks are the most indispensable part in classroom teaching of school education, for it determines the teaching contents and methods. The English textbooks mentioned in this study belong to the narrow sense.
2.1.2 Structures of textbook
There are two concepts in the structures in language: “deep structure” and “surface structure”, which is first posed by Chomsky, which is so in the structure of textbooks. The deep structure of the teaching material is a system composed of human's knowledge elements and the moral and emotional factors chosen by the textbook. The so-called “surface structure” refers to the performance of the form of teaching materials, in order to enable students to internalize the deep structure more effectively. The “surface structure” of the textbooks decides the teaching and learning of the teaching materials, reflecting the teaching characteristics of the teaching materials, and guiding the teaching and learning to a great extent.
