Abstract This thesis mainly analyzes the theme of the hope in The Shawshank Redemption, the theme of hope that runs through the whole movie, the strength of redemption is very strong. The Shawshank Redemption is one of the most shocking movies which I have seen. Every time I think of the film, my heart is still touched. 57359

It tells the story about a young promising and successful banker, Andy, who was wrongly accused of killing his wife and her lover after being drunk, so he was sent into the Shawshank prison. Inside the prison he faced a lot of cold-blooded cruel jailers and vicious gay prisoners. In the face of all the desperate plights, some prisoners had been institutionalized, their hope had be effaced,and they are accustomed to living in the prison and being a slave. However, the protagonist Andy never discarded the hope, the hope is always existed in his heart, and the seeds of hope were transmitted to his friends in the Shawshank, so that they can regain hope. 

Hope is the most real fantasy, expectation and desire in our heart.It is the expectation to achieve a certain purpose or a concrete condition. Hope is the meaning of life. As long as there is hope in the heart, Andy can get rid of bondage of the Institutionalization,and get free; As long as there is hope in the heart, Red can regain freedom and has the courage to face life again, as long as there is hope in the heart, everything is possible.

The paper falls into five parts. Part one serves as an introduction. Part Two mainly explores into hope under the institutionalization. Part Three is an analysis of different types of hope from the perspective of three main characters in the movie. Part Four aims to elaborate the power of hope. And Part Five is a conclusion.

 摘要这篇论文主要剖析了《肖申克的救赎》里的希望主题。希望的主题贯穿着整部电影。它的力量是非常强大的。《肖申克的救赎》是我看过的最震撼人灵魂的电影之一，每次回想起这部电影，心中的感动依旧。

它讲述的是一位年轻有为，事业有成的银行家安迪被冤枉酒后杀死了自己的妻子及其情夫，因此被投进了肖申克监狱。监狱里面他所面对的都是些冷血残酷的狱卒和凶狠的同性恋犯人，在面临种种令人绝望的困境下，有些囚徒早已被体制化，被磨灭了希望，习惯了监狱里生活，习惯了被奴役。然而主人公安迪却一直不曾丢弃希望，心怀希望，而且将希望的种子传递给监狱里的朋友，让他们重获希望。

希望，是心中最真切的幻想、盼望和愿望。是期望达到的某种目的或出现的某种情况。希望是生命的意义所在。只要心中有希望，安迪就能够摆脱体制化的束缚，获得自由；只要心中有希望，瑞德就能够重获自由，重新面对人生；只要心中有希望，一切就皆有可能。

本文共分为五部分。第一部分是导言。第二部分着重探讨体制下的希望。第三部分以三个人物为切入点，分析他们不同类型的希望。第四部分旨在阐明希望的力量。第五部分是结论。
