Abstract As the bridge between the two sides of business, business English letter holds a major position in international business. When business English letter conveys the message between parties, it makes the business successful. This thesis analyzes the guiding functions of pragmatic principles in writing business English letter from pragmatic perspective. 61801
This thesis adopts the methods of comparative analysis and case analysis to explore the effects of Cooperation Principle (CP) and Politeness Principle (PP) in business English writing. The study shows that CP and PP have a significant function in writing business English letter. Compliance with the Cooperation Principle can reduce misunderstandings. The trust between the two parties is also developed. However, in practice, the Cooperation Principle is frequently violated. To explain this violation, Politeness Principle is applied to reduce the violation of the CP and increase the use of polite expression to promote international trades. Thus, the study of the pragmatic functions of CP and PP in business English letter can decrease the misunderstandings and create a harmonious climate for international trades.

论合作原则和礼貌原则在商务英语信函中的应用
摘要商务英语信函作为国际贸易双方沟通的桥梁，作用尤为重要。恰当得体的商务英语信函能够准确的传达贸易双方的想法，从而促进贸易的达成。本文从语用角度分析语用原则在商务英语信函中的指导作用。
本文运用比较法和例证法来分析论证了合作原则和礼貌原则在商务英语信函写作中的应用及方法。合作原则和礼貌原则对于商务英语信函的写作起到了举足轻重的作用。遵循合作原则可以使国际贸易双方减少误解，增进双方信任。然而，在实际的沟通交往中，常会出现违背合作原则的情况，在这种情况下，礼貌原则起到了进一步的指导作用。礼貌原则要求在商务英语信函的写作中，尽量减少不符合合作原则的表达，尽量增加礼貌程度，以促进国际贸易的有序进行。因此，对合作原则和礼貌原则在商务英语信函中的语用作用的研究可以减少误解，为国际贸易合作营造良好的气氛。
