摘要本文对英国著名天主教小说家戴维洛奇的小说《天堂消息》中的宗教现象进行了分析。从分析小说的历史以及社会背景开始，对具体宗教人物和宗教情节进行分析，进一步阐释了小说中的宗教原型和以及其宗教来源。本文认为，现代的宗教不再只是傲立于世俗之上，而是渐渐融入世俗，逐渐体现出人文内涵。在工业化、物质化、享乐zhuyi盛行的现代社会中，宗教作为精神支柱对保持世人人格完整的重要性不可或缺。66394

Title The Analysis of the Religious Consciousness of Paradise News
Abstract This paper is to analyze the religious phenomenon of Paradise News written by David Lodge who is the famous British Catholic novelist. The first part of this paper introduces the novel’s historical and social background. Then the specific religious figures and religious plots are analyzed. Furthermore, this paper further illustrates the religious prototypes of the main character and its religious origin. Finally, it is concluded that region is generally integrated into the secular rather than above it and the importance of keeping the religion as a spiritual pillar in the modern society is prevalent of industrialization, materialism and hedonism.

I Introduction
As one of the most prolific writers in the contemporary English literature, David Lodge has published as many as sixteen novels, and his works are full of the typical cynicism of British comedy which not only bring people happiness but also give people a lot of thought, Paradise News is the later work of Lodge who is always famous as academic writers. But as the representative of his later works, Paradise News turns his view from campus and academia to a more secular society, which means to explore people’s universal contradictions and confusion of the reality and beliefs. This paper intends to analyze the religious phenomenon of Paradise News to find the negative aspects of religion in bonding the humanity and the conflict between the religious teachings and secular life, as well as the importance of keeping the religion as a spiritual pillar in the modern society which is prevalent of industrialization, materialism and hedonism.
1.1 Literature Review
More and more researches on David Lodge’s Catholic novels have been done in recent years. David Lodge; How Far Can You Go? by Merritt Moseley in 1991 is the first monograph introducing Lodge’s works systematically. Moseley made a systematic study of Lodge works in different literary stages and his achievements. In Marian E. Crowe’s Intimations of Immorality: Catholicism David Lodge’s Paradise News, she made a deep investigation on Paradise News and reinterpreted Lodge’s rethinking and support to Catholic.
