Abstract A Thousand Splendid Suns is the second novel of Afghan-American writer Khaled Hosseini which comes after his famous work The Kite Runner. A Thousand Splendid Suns describes the difficult situations and tragic experiences of the Afghan women under the patriarchy society in Afghanistan in a deep and vivid way. The novel is fulfilled with plentiful character image, juicy scenes and deeply touching. Plenty of critics have analyzed it from the perspective of feminism, eco-feminism and some other perspectives since it was published. Almost no one offers a systematic research on the patriarchy of the female characters. In consequence, this paper will analyze the tragedies of the two female characters from the perspective of patriarchy. 68785
This thesis contains five parts. The first part is an introduction. The second part is literature review. The third part sketches the main bitter experiences of the two female characters. The fourth part probes into the causes for the tragedies of the two female characters. The fifth part functions as a conclusion.

摘要《灿烂千阳》是阿富汗裔美籍作家卡勒德·胡赛尼继其著作《追风筝的人》之后的第二部作品。《灿烂千阳》深刻而生动地描写了深受男权zhuyi压迫的阿富汗女性的艰难处境和悲惨遭遇。小说人物形象丰满，情节丰富，感人至深。小说发行以来，许多评论家从女性zhuyi、生态女性zhuyi等其他角度入手对其进行分析解读，很少有人从男权zhuyi出发对小说中女性角色进行系统地分析解读。因此，本论文将从男权zhuyi的角度对小说两位女主人公的悲剧进行探讨分析。
本论文由五个部分组成。第一部分是介绍。第二部分是文献综述。第三部分简述两位女主人公的悲惨境遇。第四部分探究两位女主人公悲剧的成因。第五部分是结论。

1 Introduction
Khaled Hosseini is an Afghan-born American novelist and physician. He worked as a doctor in California after graduating from the University of California, San Diego, but he dropped medicine on writing full-time with the success of The Kite Runner. With his two works, The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns, Hosseini has opened a “literary window” on re-presentation of Afghan reality to the people all over the world.
1.1 Khaled Hosseini and His Works
Khaled Hosseini was born on March 4, 1965 in Kabul where his father worked for the Afghanistan Foreign Ministry. In 1984, Khaled graduated from the Independence High School continuing to studying Biology at Santa Clara University. He graduated in 1988 in Biology with Bachelors after which he attended the University of California-San Diego’s School of Medicine where he gained his M.D. in 1993. 论文网
In 2003, while The Kite Runner was gaining enormous success, Hosseini returned to Afghanistan for the first time in twenty-seven years. Then in 2007, Hosseini published his second novel named A Thousand Splendid Suns, which unfolds the bustle of Afghanistan history and the struggle of innocent people in the bloody and violent years. Different from The Kite Runner which is driven by the stories of men, A Thousand Splendid Suns focuses on relationships among women. Although Hosseini gave his second book a sweet and beautiful name---A Thousand Splendid Suns, it is filled with homeless beggars, fatherless children, and husbandless wives who tortured by hungry, poverty, war and illness.
