For a long time in the foreign language teaching field, culture has played a minor role as many people take it for granted that as long as they know grammar and vocabulary, they can express anything and communicate with others easily. However, as they come into contact with native speakers in real life, they find that although they can make up grammatically and semantically correct sentences, some of them are not appropriate or feasible in the currant situation, and even violate cultural principles in the target language community; thus communicative failure occurs at times. As Widdowson states: “We do not simply manifest the abstract system of the language. We at the same time realize it as meaningful communicative behavior.” (Widdowson 57) 英语课堂上的中国文化渗透(2):http://www.751com.cn/yingyu/lunwen_8861.html
