Although many notable critics and authors, over the years, have sought to discover why the Lost Generation was “lost”, there does not appear to be a certain answer, which aroused my interest in this issue. I hope I can do some contribution to help the present “lost generation” to find an effective way to keep a balance between ideal and reality.
In this paper, it mainly analyzes the causes of the appearance of the “lost generation” after the world wars and the new “lost generation” now. The comparison and contrast between the two generations in different ages will aid to reflect the social backgrounds which contributed to the emergence of the “lost generation”. As a result, only when we truly understand the historical backgrounds against which the two generations appear, can we know the importance to avoid being lost. It is found that the feeling of loss may cause frustration and disillusionment in daily life. Therefore, this paper will resort to Ernest Hemingway’s fictions as the theoretical basis to make a simple analysis of the formation of the “Lost Generation” in order to explore the methods to bridge the conflicts between the myth and the reality. 浅析海明威笔下“迷惘的一代”(3):http://www.751com.cn/yingyu/lunwen_17199.html
