1.3 Research Purpose and Significance
The paper makes a comparative study of the two Chinese versions of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz from the perspective of functional equivalence theory, aiming to find out how the two Chinese versions realize the functional equivalence to the original text and to what degree the two Chinese versions realize the functional equivalence.
CL plays a significant role in the growing process of children. Although there are many CLT works in China, the quality of them is intermingled. Some of them are good, while some of them are bad. Making a study on them is valuable. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is one of the most famous CL works in the world, and there are many Chinese versions of it. However, the study on them is still far from enough. Because of its representativeness and typicality, the study on the work has certain reference value. Through comparing the two Chinese versions, the paper can find out the factors in CLT and enrich the study on the translation of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz in China, making a contribution to the study of CLT at home and draw attention to the development of children’s literature as well.
1.4 Research Questions
Based on the functional equivalence theory, the paper aims to address the two following questions:
(1) In the two Chinese versions, which one better realized the functional equivalence with the original work from the aspects of semantic, style and culture?
(2) What’s the function of Nida’s functional equivalence theory in the translation of the children’s literature? 《绿野仙踪》马爱农和陈伯吹两个中译本对比研究(3):http://www.751com.cn/yingyu/lunwen_21124.html
