    NX Reuse Library Workflow Based on Knowledge

    Abstract. In reuse library platform, realizing the reuse process of standard parts and common parts and building standard part management system are the important application during the whole design field. This paper introduces the method of customization standard parts library using part family, and realizes standardization management of reuse library. By creating KRX files, the knowledge components in reuse library are managed. Reuse library is an effective way to organize and use standard parts and common parts. 

    Introduction 

    Product design is an ascending spiral process of knowledge accumulation and reuse, while product design knowledge reuse is an even more important segment. As we know, one of the most significant aspects of knowledge management is knowledge transfer. And the core of knowledge transfer is knowledge reuse, that is, the knowledge of an entity which can be located, used and shared. Nowadays, reusable objects are used a lot in many modern enterprises.  Engineers have to choose the reusable objects they need from a large amount of data. Without some certain rules, it will be a very complicated process and wastes time. Ultimately, it will reduce the efficiency of design and increase the cost of enterprises. During the process of mechanical design, standard parts are used widely and repeatedly.  Users are always caring about establishing the standard parts library expediently, managing them effectively, and using their available resources to accomplish the product design in a short time.  NX released by Siemens PLM Software Company is an engineering solution. It offers methods of digital modeling and verification means for users' product design and process [1]. The reuse library function of NX makes the standard parts self-adapted during the process of use. The proposed theory and method can solve the problem of knowledge reuse effectively in the design process, improve efficiency and quality. 

    NX Reuse Library 

    The Basic of NX Reuse Library. In the NX software system, the resource bar is provided for accessing the reusable objects, and then adds them to the part or assembly. The resource bar is one of the NX resource tools which are similar to the assembly navigator or component navigator. The reusable objects will display as a hierarchical model tree structure. The available objects for the reuse library includes: industry standard parts and part families, NX mechanical part families, product template studio, user defined feature, law curve, shape and outline, 2D section, drawing custom symbol, as well as the knowledge component families and templates. At the time the Reusable Objects being added into the model space, which dialog box will be opened depends on the object type. For example, if we add the knowledge components or part families to the resource bar, the ‘Add reusable component dialog box’ will be opened. The Workflow of NX Reuse Library. In order to establish the reuse library and optimize the enterprise parts resources, it’s necessary to conduct a comprehensive structure analysis for the enterprise parts, standardizing parts and normalizing definitions to optimize the enterprise parts resources. Standard parts are with less leading parameters, highly parametric, and widely usage as well. Therefore, take standard parts as an example to illustrate the process of how NX Reuse Library manages the standard parts. The basic workflow is as follows: Step 1: Create standard template parts and bitmap files with NX parameterized modeling functions. Step 2: Copy the standard part templates and bitmap files to corresponding reuse library directory. Step 3: Create knowledge components. Step 4: Invoke the standard parts in reuse library environment.
