The Study on the Seed Germination and Seedling Growth Characteristics of Different Amaranths
Amaranth contains rich nutrients and high medicinal value, and it has a long history of cultivation in China. It is a kind of common vegetables. Amaranth species persity, the most important categories are green leaves and purple leaves. This paper focuses on research seed germination, growth, anthocyanin content and chlorophyll content of green leaves amaranth and purple leaves amaranth to find out the difference between the two. The main results of the experiment are as follows:
1．In addition to the germination rate，the germination index of green leaves amaranth was inferior to the purple leaves amaranth. And germination uniformity and velocity of purple leaves amaranth are better.
2. During the experiment, the measurement to the growth of the green leaves amaranth is lower than the purple leaves amaranth. At the beginning of the measurement, green leaves amaranth was higher than purple leaves amaranth, and leaves area of green leaves amaranth was slightly higher than the leaves area of purple leaves amaranth. In the later, purple leaves amaranth growth rate is large, plant height and leaf area were greater than the green leaves amaranth.
3. The anthocyanin content of green leaves amaranth was lower than that of purple leaves amaranth. Anthocyanin content of seeds, seedlings, and leaves of green leaves amaranths were lower than that of purple leaves amaranths. In the process of growth, the anthocyanin content of green leaves amaranth was growing, but anthocyanin content of seedlings of purple leaves amaranths was the largest.
4. The chlorophyll content of green leaves amaranth below purple leaves amaranth. Chlorophyll content of seeds and seedlings of purple leaves amaranths were higher than that of green leaves amaranths. And the growth rate of chlorophyll content of purple leaves amaranth is greater than that of purple leaves amaranth.
