    Teaching Robert Frost: A Case Study in Integrated English Class Abstract The age of the Internet and social network today completely revolutionized the life style of people. Transformation of the way of thinking is inevitably complying with the trend. The age needs students with comprehensive capacity, but with distinctive capacity, which cannot be easily replaced by the internet and even Robert, is more important. In order to cultivate students this capacity, there is a need of shifting of the teaching material and methods. Poetry, as a role almost fading in the English teaching, may play a new significant role in English teaching during the shifting because of its unique beauty and irreplaceable status in literature . This essay attempts to teach Robert Frost in College Integrated Courses as an example in using poetry in the Integrated English teaching.47756

    摘  要随着互联网时代和社交网络时代对人们生活方式的颠覆,思维方式的转变也必然要顺应时代变革的趋势。这个时代需要的不仅仅是综合能力强的学生,更需要有个性化才能的人,这些才能是网络甚至机器人所不能代替的,而培养这样的人才需要教学材料和教学方式的变革。诗歌作为一个几乎在英语教学中消失的角色,或许可以在这场变革中重展昔日雄风。它独具魅力并且是文学中不可替代的一部分。本文尝试在综合英语课堂中讲授罗伯特·弗罗斯特的诗歌,以此来了解诗歌在综合英语教学中的应用。

     1. Introduction 

    Modern education has a tendency to emphasize more on the cultivation of comprehensive ability of students. As a part of modern education, English teaching, compared with training students the ability of learning skills, should attach equal significance to educate students the ability to have deep sentiments about history,geography,customs,traditions, literature,arts and values related to the English speaking countries. Therefore, the process of English education is more than a thing of getting the abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing. It also includes the knowledge of culture and literature. Without a good understanding of them, a student, even with a great command of language skills, would be limited in his communication competence. English and American Literature, which comes from the western culture, definitely becomes the best way to know the arts of the English language and taste love and hate,ideal and reality of the Western world. By studying literature, understanding the deep culture which supports the surface culture, we can have a better grasp of the language. While simply applying literature in English teaching is far from enough, the selection of materials and the method of teaching are of more importance. Good materials and appropriate methods can create a good environment for students, developing their interest and activity of English learning. English poetry, although whose importance fades in English learning during these years, can be a great alternative of materials selection. The learning and appreciation of English poetry, as the essence of the English language, can deepen the comprehension of English and promote their aesthetic ability. This thesis teaches Robert Frost in College Integrated English as a case study of using Poetry in English teaching. By analyzing the negative aspects of the traditional method used in Integrated English and the poetry features of Robert Frost, this paper tries to make it convinced that the connection of Poetry and the Integrated English is practical in promoting learning efficiency.
