Abstract As a female writer, Lessing has always focused on the exploration of women’s life and the theme of their destinies. This thesis tries to discuss Doris Lessing’s feminist ideas in her novel The Golden Notebook, it aims to portray the images of different groups of women , the plights they met in their pursuit of freedom. The paper compares their different ways of pursuing freedom for women like Anna and Marion as well as many sufferings and dilemmas they experienced. By analyzing different final choices women made, the paper comes to the conclusion that whether for free women or traditional women, the freedom they pursued should be a harmonious relationship between man and woman based on mutual understanding. 60054

摘要作为一名女性作家,妇女的人生探索及其命运主题始终是莱辛关注的焦点。本文试图通过莱辛的《金色笔记》来分析探讨她的女性主义思想。《金色笔记》成功地塑造了以安娜为代表的现代女性形象,揭示了自由女性在追求自由和完整自我的过程中所面临的现实困境和精神危机以及她们为走出困境所做出的不懈努力。本文分析了不同的女性如安娜和马莉恩的追寻自由之路,对比了她们在追寻自我认同过程中所面临的痛苦和两难以及她们在经历了人生的困惑之后所作出的理性选择,揭示了不论是自由女性还是传统女性她们所追求的自由应该是一种建立在互相理解基础上的和谐的两性关系。

1. Introduction
Doris Lessing is one of the most extraordinary British woman novelist in the 20th century. As a writer, She is gifted and prolific, So far, she has created numerous works, including novels, short stories, plays, poems, essays, etc. In 2007, She won the Nobel Prize for Literature as an epicist of the female experience, who with skepticism, fire and visionary power has subjected a pided civilization to scrutiny. Lessing was the eleventh woman and the oldest person to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature. The Golden Notebook, is regarded as her best-known representative, paralleled with Simone de Beauvoir’s The Second Sex as the bible of the Women’s Movement by feminists. Doris Lessing wrote the novel in 1962. The novel was under the social background of London at the time from 1950s to 1960s. During this period, the original values and moral standard of Europe have been collapsed due to the influence of World War II. The chaotic world has brought people endless puzzle and strong spiritual shock especially to those intellectual people who care about the world situation.
