3. The Introduction of Freud’s Personality Theory
Id is the most primitive and the inherent part of subconsciousness. It includes human’s basic desire and impetus such as starvation, thirst and sex.
Id is the source of all psychic energy. Id influences human according to the pleasure principle which means that human beings always try to avoid pain and seek pleasure . All creatures follow the pleasure principle and have a universal tendency of trying to clear away the internal and external obstacles and sustain their life. The exact meaning of id is clearly demonstrated in The Standard Edition of the Complete Psychological Works of Sigmund Freud. “It contains everything that is inherited, that is present at birth, that is laid down in the constitution—above all, therefore, the instincts which originate from the somatic organization and which find a first psychical expression here in forms unknown to us.” (Strachey, 2000: 145)
