Title      Americanism in Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
    Abstract
Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, a masterpiece by American writer Mark Twain, not only shows the reality of the United States, also fully embodies the art of Mark Twain’s writing style, which is seen as an epoch-making masterpiece of realism in American literary history. Since it was first published in 1884, so far, there have been many studies from various different angles (such as: realism, existentialism, racism and psychological novel dimensions) to interpret it, but there have been very few articles discussing its Americanism. For a long time, scholars studied it as a bildungsroman, largely following the path of other literary theory to cut into the work, mainly from the cultural background, character, racism, slavery in the South, writers’ ideas and life background analysis, but they ignored the Americanism implicated in the novel’s language. This paper aims to analyze the Americanism in the work mainly from the perspective of language, making the reader get a better understanding of Adventures of Huckleberry Finn from a new angle.

    1.1  Research Background and Purpose
As is known to all, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn which was written by a famous American writer Mark Twain is still a classic in American literature nowadays. Huckleberry Finn, the protagonist of the story, is an intelligent, kind, and brave white boy. He flees to the Mississippi River in pursuit of freedom. On the fugitive way, he meets a slave named Jim who is industrious, simple, warm, honest, and loyal. In order to escape the fate of being sold again by his owner, he runs away from home. The two boys experience a variety of adventures. The innovations in the novel vary from languages, thoughts to techniques. The novel praises the boy Huckleberry for his tact and kindness, and condemns the hypocrisy of religion and the foolishness of religious believers. At the same time, the novel also creates a slave with great dignity.

This paper explores Americanism in Adventures of Huckleberry Finn from the perspective of language. The significance and value of the thesis lie in its study of Americanism, which is a representative of the excellent quality and noble spirit of humanity, which is the essence of humanity beyond nationality, race, and ideology.
