However, Marlowe also introduced some changes to make it more original. Marlowe is one of the typical representatives in the period of Renaissance. In the 12th century, a rediscovery of Greek and Roman literature which happened in Europe that eventually led to the development of the humanist movement in the 14th century. What’ more, other than emphasizing Greek and Latin scholarship, humanists believed that each inpidual had significance with society.
The increase of an interest in human led to the changes in the arts and sciences which shaped common conceptions of the Renaissance. People pay more attention to them, pursue more rights and have a thirst for knowing more about the world. This has consistency with Marlowe’s ideas which are embodied in the tragedy of Dr. Faustus. It is people’s curiosity and exploration about the world that make Britain culture colorful. This paper will explain the new change of British culture under the background of the Renaissance in three parts: knowledge, love and ideal in the book Tragedy of Faustus written by Marlowe.
