    摘 要当代著名英国小说家、诺贝尔文学奖获得者威廉﹒戈尔丁的代表作品《蝇王》描述了在人们失去约束后所表现出来的人性恶以及善与恶之间的潜在斗争。《蝇王》借小孩的天真来探讨人性的恶这一严肃的主题,通过描写野蛮与文明的对抗揭示了《蝇王》中的人性异化。本论文,通过解读法、文本分析法来分析人类在野蛮和欲望之间表现的不堪一击,从而告诫我们要警惕自己内心中黑暗,邪恶的一面,同时也让我们充分了解自己的本性,更好的认识自己,呼吁发扬心中的善的一面,思考人类文明的未来出路。36682

    Abstract Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding, a well-known British novelist and winner of the Nobel Prize for literature, describes the evil and the potential struggle of good and evil in human nature at the loss of restraint. This paper aims to reveal the human nature of evil from the perspective of children’s innocence and the human alienation through the confrontation between barbarism and civilization. This paper adopted close-reading and text-analysis to shows the human civilization appears to collapse at the first blow of barbarism and desire so as to warn us to watch out for the darkness and evil in our heart, as well as arouse a better understanding of our human nature. At the same time, it also calls for the kindness and justice that should be carried forward forever and appeals to people to think about the future civilization.

    I. Introduction

    William Gerald Golding is a famous English novelist, an essayist and poet, and he was born on September 19, 1911, in the village of St. Minor in Cornwall, England. William Golding is the winner of the 1983 Nobel Prize for Lord of the Flies. It secures him an important position in modern English literary history. “For his novels which, with the perspicuity of realistic narrative art and the persity and universality of myth, illuminate the human condition in the world of today”.(qtd.in The Nobel Prize). Golding’s allegorical fiction often makes broad use of allusions to classical literature, mythology, and Christian symbolism. The book became an immediate success in the western countries, through which Golding achieved international fame and wide critical acceptance. In 2005 the novel was chosen by TIME magazine as one of the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to 2005. It was awarded a place on both lists of Modern Library 100 Best Novels, reaching number 41 on the editor's list, and 25 on the reader’s list.
    What is human nature? How does William Golding use it in such a simple story of English boys to precisely illustrate the destructive human nature? Golding was involved in World War Two which broke out in 1940, he saw the whole course of the war and saw how destructive humans can be, and how a normal person can go from a civilized human begin into savages. In Lord of the Flies, Golding uses the theme of human nature to show how easily society can crumbled, and how self-destructive humanity is. The “Lord of the Flies” is literally a pig’s head that had been cut off by Jack, and offered to the “beast”. Furthermore, the name “Lord of the Flies” is the literal English translation of Beelzebub, a demonic figure that is often considered synonymous with Satan. Actually, the Lord of the Flies was the external physical of the beastie in humanity. In this book, as well as in his many other books, his purpose is to explore into the darkest place of human heart and make people realize the truth of man. Throughout the story, Golding conveys a theme of how twisted and sick human nature can lead us to be. Many different parts of human nature can all lead to the collapse of society. Some of the parts of human nature Golding inset dark factors into the book are: destruction, demoralization, hysteria and panic. These emotions all attribute to the collapse of society, includes character, conflict, and as well as symbolism to portray that men are innate evil.
