     Abstract  Lead-in is an extremely important part in classroom teaching. It is an activity which happens when the teacher guides students into learning state before a class beginning. A fantastic lead-in can absolutely activates classroom atmosphere, provoke students' interest, stimulate study enthusiasm, and improve teaching efficiency. This paper is mainly to explore lead-in problems in Junior Middle School. Based on associated literatures, firstly this paper introduced the functions and principles of lead-in in classroom teaching. Then it analysed the causes for lead-in problems in English class in Junior Middle School. Then it put forward some suggestions for English class in junior middle school, such as intuitive lead-in, multi-media lead-in, games lead-in, story lead-in and illustration lead-in. We hope this paper will provide some reference for English teachers in junior middle school so as to improve teaching efficiency.

    Lead-in can be named as “starting teaching” in class. It refers to the beginning of a very short part of teaching before a new lesson imparting. It cost little time and it is of great importance in classroom teaching. What’s more, students’ attention can be attracted in a short time by effective lead-in. A suitable lead-in method in a new lesson beginning can have a great effect on students learning. It can provide many effective ways for teachers to present a new lesson. Also, lead-in is of great importance in English class teaching.
