This thesis is composed of four parts. In the introduction, the thesis introduces the author of The Loons and the background of this novel briefly. In the following two parts, the thesis shows the paradoxical attitudes of the marginalized and the dominant through analyzing the figures of two main characters, Vanessa and Piquette. In the fourth part, the thesis reveals the cultural connotation reflected in The Loons with aid of related post-colonial theories. Then, the thesis displays the vicious circle forming under the influence of the mixed feelings. In the conclusion, the thesis will summarize the main points of the former parts.
