    摘要语言学习的最终目的在于能够与人交际,因此口语学习应在英语专业大学生的学习生活中占据重要地位。但当前大多数英语专业大学生的口语水平表明其口语学习过程中存在着一些问题,需要改善。本论文将通过问卷调查和访谈的形式对南京理工大学英语专业大三学生的口语水平和口语学习中遇到的问题进行了解,从学习心理学和教育学的角度,分析问题产生的学生主观因素和教师资源配置、教学方法等外部因素。在分析问题出现原因的基础上,结合我校理工类英语专业的特殊背景,提出一些适用我校英语专业学生的方法,从而帮助我校英语专业学生提高口语交际能力。

    Title         Status Survey on the Spoken English Learning of English Majors
    Taking Junior English Majors at Nanjing University of Science and Technology for Example
    Abstract
    The ultimate goal of language study is to be able to communicate with others, thus spoken English learning should play an important role in the college life of English majors. But the current spoken English proficiency of most English majors indicates that some problems, which need to be improved, exist in the process of their spoken English learning. This paper, via questionnaires and interviews, endeavors to know the spoken English proficiency of the junior English majors at Nanjing University of Science and Technology and the problems they have encountered in spoken English learning. From the perspectives of psychology of learning and pedagogy, this paper analyzes the subjective factors of students and the external factors such as the resource allocation of teachers and teaching methods which induce those problems. On the basis of analyzing the possible reasons, this paper, combining the special background of being English majors at a university of technology, tries to put forward some methods that hold true for these English majors and thus to help improve their oral communicative competence.

    1 Introduction
    With the rapid development of globalization, frequent economic, political and social exchanges take place between different countries, which raises a higher demand for the spoken English proficiency of college students, especially the English majors. However, in the previous years, the results of oral English teaching is far from reaching the established goals. Currently, Test for English Majors Grade 4-Oral (TEM4-Oral) is one of the major English oral tests in China (Cheng, 2008). According to the collected data, the excellent rates of the TEM4-Oral from 2005 to 2009 are respectively 0.5%, 0.9%, 0.4%, 0.4% and 0.4%; the disqualified rates are 33.7%, 41.8%, 46.3%, 40.2% and 41.9% (Wang, Yu, 2010). The data indicate that the failure rates are relatively high and there is still a long way to go before the spoken English proficiency of English majors could meet the requirements of global development. Taking all aspects of English learning into consideration, the language output ability of students is much worse than their reading, writing, listening and translating abilities which are highly practiced in routine exams.
