    However, in consideration of popular application of the intertextuality in news headlines, the thesis will offer a systematic study about intertextuality. Taking the news headlines from New York Times and China Daily as examples to analyze, the author will mainly state how to classify the intertextuality and its specific application in English news headlines.
    2. Literature Review
    From the early age of the 1980s, a large-scale movement of introducing western theories, including the intertextuality, has begun. It has been 40 years since Julia Kristeva first present the theory of intertextuality. During that time, especially the last 10 years, the extensive application and rapid development of intertextuality in various field is impressive. The theory of intertextuality has broken the traditional text view of acting on one’s own and self-contained. It begins to deconstruct the whole body of the text. The intertextuality is commonly seen not only in the literary genre,but also in the non-literary genre, such as news report, art, law and so on. There are various information sources releasing hundreds of news reports everyday. The author will make the readers have a clear framework of the development of the intertextuality and news headlines.

    2.1 Background of Intertextuality Research
    With regard to the theory of intertextuality, the academic circles is widely believe that this term is first introduced by Julia Kristeva in 1967. In the process of translating the works of Bakhtin, she had gleaned abundant nutrition from Bakhtin’s thoughts about dialogue and polyphonic novel to advance the theory of intertextuality with its own features.
    Belgium famous philosopher J•M• Bakhtin (1980) in his book presented that intertextuality is ping into the Chinese academic circles. He thought any text would never let only one creative mind occur to the author. The intertextuality was derived from other texts and written in that angle provided by other text. It was related with the text content, function and changing structure. This sentence might be the earliest material about intertextuality presented to the home scholars.
    Roland Barthes(1987) in Text Theory distinguished that the scholars needed to apart the intertextuality itself and its influence to the study. He thought in formative time the text and the around always had the language existing and the intertextuality was the condition for the different texts occurring. The sources of the noncultivated texts were seldom found by the people.
    Shreve(1992) listed the intertextuality as the major study content in the process of the text translation.Cook (1992) once pointed that analyzing the slogan not just needed to analyze the language, developing the intertextuality from generalization to narrow sense. As a result, the intertextuality defined in this way was no longer referred to the culture or text meaning to the semiology process instead of being limited in the frame of specific understanding. Basil Hatim (2001) succussed the former study of text intertextuality, expending the study to mature in translation.
    Zhang Hairong (2002) in her book Way to Home presented that the intertextuality could be expanded to the field of film, art and son on. The intertextuality theory provided a new formular and eye to unscramble the literature and literature works, and then draw a conclusion that the poem of abroad and homes had many features about intertextuality in rhyme and so on. He thought as a translator, the author must fully realize the intertextuality features in translating the poem. And he thought the intertextuality had a significance on translation. Zhao Binru (2012) pointed out that since the intertextuality was increasingly used in the analysis of dialogues, and its focus was no longer played in the single literature field, turning to the non-literature ones, such as politics, law, media and slogan.
