    Abstract Cooperative learning is a student-centered learning method, which puts emphasis on how to stimulate students’ initiative and motivation during the learning process. It can arouse students’ enthusiasm and interest. Although cooperative learning method has already been widely used in language teaching, few studies have investigated the cooperation when students write in groups and the subjects investigated are mainly college students. Due to this research situation, this thesis aims at analyzing the implementation of the cooperative learning in the teaching of English writing in the secondary school.31530
    This study is classroom based. The research tools in this study include three tests as well as one questionnaire for students in the experimental class. The subjects are the students of two classes of Grade 9 from Xuzhou No.8 Middle School.
    The results of this study reveal that the students in the experimental class have made some progress in light of their writing scores, but there is no significant disparity between the experimental class and the control class in terms of their writing proficiency. However, according to the results of the questionnaire, it is able to arouse students’ interest, stimulate their enthusiasm and motivation as well as alleviate their writing anxiety during the writing process. Besides, the students of the experimental class have made some progress in making less mistakes in word spelling and grammar. This study also brings us some important implications for the teaching of English writing.

    摘要合作学习是一种以学生为中心的学习方法,这种方法注重学生在学习中的核心地位,强调在学习过程中调动学生的主动性和积极性,激发学生的学习兴趣和学习热情。目前合作学习已被广泛应用于课堂教学,但应用于写作教学方面的研究却很少。而且研究对象主要是大学生。基于这一点,本文旨在研究合作学习在初中英语写作课堂的应用。本研究是以课堂为基础的,主要通过对实验班和控制班学生前,中,后三次作文测验成绩进行对比分析,并且在后测后,对实验班同学进行问卷调查,了解合作学习能否提高学生的写作水平。研究对象是徐州第八中学初三两个班的学生。
    该研究结果显示,将合作学习应用到写作教学中,实验班学生的写作分数有所提高,但和控制班之间仍无明显差距,但调查问卷的结果显示,它能激发学生写作兴趣,降低写作焦虑,提高写作动机。而且相比控制班的学生,实验班的学生英语作文中单词拼写和语法错误较少。该调查研究结果对初中写作教学工作具有重要启示。
