    Class discussion is an important manifestation of the new course to promote independent cooperative inquiry-based learning, especially in the open class, and high quality class competitions. It is an integral link, and often can make key teaching points prominent and class atmosphere active. It not only can be applied to the whole class, but also can be suitable for large groups. But in the actual teaching process, much of the discussion is only a form, with no real content, with sometimes the topic too easy and unnecessary to discuss about, and sometimes too difficult for students in English class. Therefore, I would like to discuss the current problems and how to apply class discussion in English teaching in junior middle schools.
    This paper mainly consists of five parts. Part One introduces the background of this writing, the main contents, and the purpose of this paper. Part Two is the definition, the types, the necessities of class discussion. Part Three introduces current situations and principles of the application of class discussion in English teaching in junior middle schools. Part Four is the specific application strategies of class discussion in English teaching in junior middle school. Part Five is the general conclusion and some reference value of this paper.

    II. On Class Discussion

    2.1 The Definition of Class Discussion
    Class discussion is a form of teaching activities, in which students, under teacher’s instructions, discuss and debate over the elementary theories or major problems in the textbooks on the base of independent study. Class discussion is the teaching method by which teachers organize students and stimulate their thinking, expressing and achieving agreements, in order to deepen the understanding of the learning content, the difference between right and wrong or draw a new conclusion. This method, based on the students’ independent activities, can cultivate students’ independent learning, so as to achieve the purpose of teaching.
