Abstract Under the guidance of Nida's functional equivalence translation theory, this essay makes some analysis on the translating strategy of English sports news into Chinese. The first part of this essay makes a brief introduction of the values, characteristics and types of sports news, in order to stress the necessity of the study on strategy of English sports news translation into Chinese. The second part introduces the definition of Nida's functional equivalence translation theory and the applicability of Nida's functional equivalence theory. The third part of the essay respectively makes an analysis on the application of the equivalence theory to translation, taking the translation of headlines and body of English sports news as examples. The fourth part focuses on approaches to English sports news translation based on Nida's equivalence theory, which covers literal translation, free translation and literal translation plus explanation. The last part is about conclusion of the whole essay. As Nida's equivalence theory still has some flaws and insufficiency as well as this essay. I sincerely hope the future research will have some breakthrough in the study of the strategy of English sports news into Chinese, helping to make the flourishing of sports news.

摘要
本论文在奈达的功能对等理论的指导下，对体育新闻的汉译策略做了浅析。论文第一部分对体育新闻的价值、特点及类型做了简要的说明，旨在强调体育新闻的重要性及研究体育新闻汉译策略的必要性。论文第二部分介绍了奈达的功能对等翻译理论及其适应性。论文第三部分分别以体育新闻的标题及主体为例详细分析了奈达功能对等翻译理论在这两部分的应用。第四部分则分析了奈达功能对等翻译理论以何种方式展开应用，即直译、意译以及直译加解释。最后一部分对论文及奈达的翻译理论做了小结。本论文的浅显研究尚有不足，希望后来者能在体育新闻的汉译研究方面有所突破，为体育新闻的繁荣发展添砖加瓦。6209

1 Introduction
The essay is mainly aiming to analyze the translation strategy of English sports news into Chinese. In order to make it clear that why this subject is worthy to be explored and also to stress the importance of sports, at the beginning of the introduction, the values of sports are inevitably explained as follows. First of all, the development of sports is of great importance in a community in a number of ways such as the development of the inpidual in terms of health, physical fitness and life as a whole. Secondly, sports development will also lead to economic development where inpiduals can make a career out of sports. Last but not least, sports development can relieve social depression and provide lifelong skills that can be transferred to other areas in life.
1.1 The Values of Sports
Nowadays, sports have long been more essential to people's life, attracting people who favor the unique charm of sports at home and abroad. In our country, people not only actively and widely anticipate in sports events with great enthusiasm, but also pay much attention on competitive sports, hence to improve their physical fitness. With rapid and flourishing development of sports all over the world, people not just concentrate on sports events within national, but also cast more and more attention on various sports events and sports newspapers in other countries. Henceforth sports culture communications and exchanges are gradually being carried on and numerous countries are closely connected on a global scale. Under such circumstances, to some extent, the translation of sports news from English into Chinese can be able to provide a medium and a platform for Chinese people to understand the sports culture and values in other countries, which will promote further communication, recognition and understanding, even cooperation between Chinese and other countries and flourish the development of sports undertakings on a global scale.
