I. Introduction
With the increasing contact between China and other countries, learning and mastering a foreign language has become the basic requirement for the 21st century citizens. So it is an inevitable trend of social development to open English class at the elementary level. English language teaching is in line with the students’ physiological and psychological characteristics, which help students mobilize the enthusiasm and initiative, and improve teaching efficiency and student’s achievement. But since English education in primary has just started, inevitably, there are some problems. For example, about teaching objectives, too much emphasis was put on understanding and mastering, but ignore to cultivate English-learning interests in teaching process (Zhao 58-60).Teachers always “lays down the law” and “spoon-fed” on their sites in traditional teaching models and methods, and students always are in a negative, and passive learning status. There is no relaxation and happiness.
For those students who are interested in English and love English, they do not only pay attention to the curricular and the job, but also find other English books, or conduct researches to study. Some even give up other activities. Learning native language is difficult, this is the same situation for students who learning English. But we say that interest is motivation and nutrient to learn and it can inspire human spiritual strength. Students’ learning motivation can be stimulated and maintained by interest. It can be said that there is no other factors can compare with it. So we have to change the traditional teaching methods, and the dull atmosphere and have English teaching innovation, implement interesting teaching and stimulate students’ interests. Starting with the physical and mental development of children and stimulating students’ interests and creativity, which make students happy when learning English. Meanwhile, adding to some appropriate games in the progress of learning English can also help students form correct learning methods and good habits, and can make study easily, thus meet the requirements of quality education.
At present, the primary school English teaching is far from satisfaction:teacher’s quality is irregular, teaching equipments are limited, lacking of good English learning environment. Especially in classroom teaching, the teacher’s idea and the short-term goal of teaching and the single teaching method and evaluation means are obsolete. Therefor the primary school English classroom teaching quality should improve with the development of the social need. In primary school, especially in rural primary school, English classroom teaching method is “daunted and Chinglish”. It does not conform to the students elementary physiological and psychological characteristics and age. So it not only makes the classroom atmosphere depressing, students receive in a passive state, but also is unable to meet their interest in learning. so the students have been tired of the psychological, unwilling to continue learning English ( Mei 99-100). In addition, in class, students listen to English and read English , but have little chance to practice English. In other words, they are lacking of learning environment. China primary school English teachers, on the whole, one of the most significant disadvantages is: study for the examination. The theory and application are separated from life and the practice of communication.
