    The third reason is that the current situation of English reading teaching is not satisfied. As one of the main source of input, reading plays an important role in English teaching. However, limited research has been conducted in terms of teacher questioning in reading class. Liu Yongbing and Zhang Dongbo (2008) claim that teachers’ questions focus mainly on the vocabulary teaching and the content of the text, while little on the development of reading abilities and cognition. 

    Therefore, the study of effective teacher questioning will be of great help to English education
