    The Positive Effects of Interactive Games on Primary English Listening and Speaking Ability

    Chapter One Introduction

    1.1 General Statement

    Interactive games are a hot topic, which are mainly studied on the positive effects on English listening and speaking ability of primary school students. The growing proportion of communicative competence has been becoming more and more important in today’s rapid development of society. English is not only a widespread language, but also a tool of communication. Almost every primary school has English classes. At present, there is a high-level popularity of English classes, but the quality of these is not high. Nowadays, the main difficulties in primary school English teaching are the low cooperation rate and the low frequency on interaction between teachers and students or between the students.

    1.2 Significance of the Research

    Games can help people relax. In present researcher’s opinion, playing the game is a kind of effective method to attract children’s attention. Teacher must make use of children’s natural ability to foster their interests. For the primary school students in the low grade, it is very difficult to concentrate. 

    Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standards (2011 edition) points out apparently that listening and speaking ability plays a significant role in English study. The present researcher finds that it is hard for students to comprehend long sentences in the primary school English teaching, let alone express. However, interactive games are helpful to solve this difficulty. Interactive games are especially effective in fostering interest. Nevertheless, the positive effects of interactive games on primary English listening and speaking ability are not only to improve learning interest. 

    This research aims to develop students’ English listening and speaking ability. With the deepening of China’s opening to the outside world and the development of Chinese Educational System, Chinese parents are unwilling to let their children lose from the starting line, so they are dying to using a variety of methods focusing on the cultivation of children’s English language ability. However, the progress of students in English learning is always unsatisfactory. Nowadays, the ability to communicate in English is more important than the grades which are illustrated on paper. Learning to communicate and being good at it is a fundamental principle to meet the basic needs of contemporary social development. 源-自/751+文,论^文'网]www.751com.cn

    In this paper, the present researcher focuses on the positive effects produced by English listening and speaking ability of primary school students through the interactive games used by teachers. In addition to improving learning interests, interactive games also can improve personalities, strengthen cooperation ability and promote the relationship between teachers and students or between the students. Through the research, the present researcher hopes to help pupils improve the students of English listening and speaking ability and to lay a great foundation for the future development.

    1.3 General Structure of the Thesis

    The whole thesis is pided into five chapters.

    Chapter One is a brief introduction on this paper, significance of the research and general structure of the thesis. Chapter Two is going to provide the explanation on interactive games, and relevant studies. Chapter Three will show the methods used in the thesis, including research questions, research tools, data collection and data analysis. Chapter Four is the highlight of the whole thesis. It goes to analyze the figures in the previous chapter and to improve the theme of this paper. Last but not the least, Chapter Five is the conclusion on the thesis which is very valuable.
