Based on these previous researches, I intend to analyze Jane Eyre’s view of life. Firstly I state the development of Jane Eyre’s view of life. That is to say, her life experiences contribute to her view of life. Then I analyze her view of life in this paper.

III. Jane Eyre’s View of Life Experience

Different life experiences have different influence on her view of life. It is these experiences that contribute to her independence, self-respect, and self-improvement. When she lives in Gateshead, she forms the habit of the independence. When she lives in Lowood, she knows the value of self-respect. When she lives in Thornfield and moor house, she shows her self-esteem and self-love.
3.1 Jane Eyre’s Life in Gateshead
Jane Eyre, as a poor orphan, is maltreated by her cousins and aunt. Her best friend is books, which have a deep influence on her view of life. With her aunt and cousins enjoying their time together, she stayed alone in another room, reading books. She couldn’t still understand them completely, but she managed to find interest in the pictures in it. The poor born and lonely girl is trying to find the pleasure in life. The reality brought her up into a personality of being solitary, sensitive and obstinate. But she cherished her rights and dignity as a human. Naturally we feel a kind of upward power, which is the power of life, while the power originates from the attitude toward Life. The attitude is that she loves her life .One day, when Jane Eyre takes her Cousin John’s book to read, he beats her. John says that Jane has no right to take his books: “You have no business to take our books; you are the dependant, mama says, you have no money; your father left you none; you ought to beg, and not to live here with gentlemen’s children like us, and eat the same meals we do, and wear clothes at our mama’s expense”. (Bronte, 2002:7) When she fights against him severely, she is sent to Red Room. In the Red Room, she is frightened, but she keeps a clear mind that she needs to be saved from her blind fear of authority and be self-reliant. Her mind is complex, and all her heart is full of sorrow, she says “unjust! I never compromise to them. I shall be independent.”(Bronte, 2002:14) She hates Gateshead, hates everyone there. She hates Mrs. Reed who is a bad, hard-hearted woman. She treats her badly.
