    摘 要外语学习的重要的环节之一是掌握词汇,这种学习贯穿整个过程,它比语音、语法更值得关注。在词汇学习中初中学生面临的最大问题是如何有效地理解、储存和掌握词汇。因此,研究哪些理论策略可以有效地帮助学生掌握词汇是非常有必要的。本文以建构主义理论为基础,根据建构主义理论的知识观、学习观和教学观,着重阐述了从建构主义理论在初中英语词汇教学中的应用。只有以建构主义理论为指导,引导学生有效运用英语词汇学习策略、进一步改进教学方法才能够更好地帮助学生学好英语词汇。24939

    Abstract
    There is no denying that mastering vocabulary is a very important part in learning a foreign language. This kind of learning covers throughout the process. It is worthwhile to pay more attention to vocabulary than to pronunciation and grammar. Therefore, in the process of learning, it is necessary to explore what kinds of theory strategies can help students learn English vocabulary effectively. Based on constructivist theory and the constructivist view of knowledge, learning and teaching, this paper focuses on exploring the application of constructivism in English vocabulary learning and teaching. In the end, the author deems that only by improving teaching methods and by equipping students with the necessary strategies with the guidance of constructivist, can the teachers and students achieve the goal of a better vocabulary acquisition.

    I. Introduction

    Language is the instrument of communication, which involves three elements: pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar. So far, most learners, teachers as well as researchers have come to the agreement that vocabulary is essential to foreign language learning and teaching, without which, none of the five skills(1istening, speaking, reading, writing and translating)can be learned well. Wilkins holds that “without grammar very little can be conveyed, without vocabulary nothing can be conveyed”. This shows that vocabulary learning is very important.(Wilkins 111)
    In 2001, the National Standard for English Curriculum, formulated by the Ministry of Education, sets a higher requirement for junior middle school students. They are required to master a vocabulary of 2,000 words when they graduate. The increase of vocabulary has imposed a new challenge on English vocabulary teaching and learning at junior middle schools. Although both teachers and students spend much time and energy on vocabulary teaching and learning, the reward is very little. Quite a lot of students find it hard to meet the requirement for vocabulary setting in the new “Curriculum Standard”. Vocabulary learning has been the most challenging and time consuming part for them. Students are in great need of guidance on how to learn vocabulary effectively and efficiently. To better help students learn English vocabulary, it is necessary to explore what learning strategies can be used in vocabulary learning process. This paper attempts to state the current situation of English Vocabulary Learning and Teaching at junior middle school and discuss the application of constructivism in English vocabulary learning and teaching.
