I. Introduction
Tea and coffee are the two main kinds of beverages all over the world. Tea is a representative symbol of Chinese culture, while coffee shows the spirit of Western culture. As we know, both tea and coffee have a long history of thousands of years. China is the homeland of tea which has the history of five thousand years. At present, all tea used in the world comes from China. That’s to say, tea is an important symbol of Chinese culture. Coffee is equally important for westerners. As an English saying goes, “If I’m not at home, I’ll be in the cafe or on the way there”(Chen Feng etc 4). It looks like a joke, but it just shows the significance of coffee in Western countries. Therefore, making a comparison between Chinese tea culture and Western coffee culture from the perspective of cross-cultural communication is necessary.
