1. Introduction
1.1 Background
Body language is a kind of unspoken language that is widely used by us as nearly 70% of communication between human beings is derived through nonverbal language,which is an important medium for people to communicate in their daily life. Body language includes facial expressions,eye behavior,gestures,posture,space and distance.
1.2 Significance
Currently, English becomes more and more important to students, and classroom teaching is the major way for students to learn English. Primary students' attention is impersistent and unstable, so use body language in English class of primary school meets the physical and psychological characteristics,because body language is more vivid so that it can attract primary students' attention. What's more, the vocabulary and expressive ability and understanding ability of primary students' are limited, so it is difficult for teachers to use spoken English through the whole class. According to the limitations, the proper use of body language can help teacher improve their teaching and also help students to get a better understanding.
Body language is so important for English teaching of primary school that there are a lot of researches focus on the usage of body language. Body language has a very long history. The study of body language started from 19th century when Darwin published his book --- The Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animals, which laid a solid foundation to the research of body language. The publication of Introduction to Kinesics by American professor Birdwhistell marked the formal founding of this discipline.
