In the past few years, many scholars in China begin to realize the importance of humanistic education in English teaching. However, most of the researches are related to moral education. There are not many researches that could connect humanistic education with English reading teaching. However, the connection between humanistic education and reading teaching should not be overlooked. While many studies focus on university and high school English education, only a few studies focus on the humanistic education of teaching reading in middle schools. So this paper tries to give scientific theoretical basis and rational practice to the implementation of humanistic education through reading teaching. The study of humanistic education in English reading has a very profound meaning in the current English education in middle schools. In reading teaching procedure, teachers can exert humanistic strategy to optimize teaching effect. It is also beneficial to bring up a generation gifted with the humanistic spirit. This thesis aims to answer the following two questions. First, how to better understand humanity in reading material through the interpretation of English Curriculum Standards (2011); second, how to implement humanistic education through teaching reading in middle schools.
